Leia Organa: A Critical Obituary

Max, December 31, 2016

Never been a huge Star Wars fan, but I have to admit this is very well done.

Leia Organa, the politician and revolutionary who led the defeat of the Galactic Empire, died after a short illness. She was 60 years old. Hers was a life laced with controversy concerning everything from her tactics to her very ancestry, but her intelligence, commitment to the Republican cause, and place at the heart of the Rebellion, and later the Resistance against Neo-Imperialism, remains the indisputable core of her legacy.

well here we are in the Narrative
good guys bad guys shades of gray
twists and turns and stomach drops
secrets plots and money drops
stealy cheaty boredy bad
no one knows what makes it sour
irradiated by the hour
check and balance crack and fall
it means us all so why?
they stay in pictures flat and gray
bathe in fear as if it feeds
judge the giver chop the tree
and turn the world to mud
but narratives are human things
drawn up to talk to future beings
anthropocentric nonsense memes
that do not sway the microkings
just begun their feast.

The Outrage Of Criminals.

Cute little monster

Max, December 20, 2016

Found this guy hanging out in my woodpile the other day. About 6 inches long with the tail. It’s either a Northern or Great Pacific Salamander – looks more like a Northern but we’re supposed to be a bit too far south. He’s so cute I wanted to bring him in the house to play but figured he was happy where he was. Nature’s cool.

Now they’re just messing with me

Harvard Study: Smoking Weed Improves Brain Functions

“After three months of medical marijuana treatment, patients actually performed better, in terms of their ability to perform certain cognitive tasks, specifically those mediated by the frontal cortex,” explained Gruber.

Study participants also reported improvements in their specific clinical conditions, sleep, and overall health as well as a decreased use of conventional medications, particularly opiates.

“We saw a 42 percent reduction in opioid use,” reported Gruber. “This is significant, particularly for those of us in Massachusetts and other areas of the country where the opioid epidemic is ravaging so many. This preliminary finding certainly warrants deeper and broader investigation.”

Satan’s games. Besides, who really wants to be smart anyway? It’d just make you into one of those latte-sipping west coast elitists who fails to understand the simple genius of our great leader.

ridge

Max, December 15, 2016

living in a seaside town
harbor safe when weather calm
oft’ a gale known to blow
wind and waves so strong

ridge encircles gentle wall
hides the view beyond
love and pain contained within
a life known so long

perhaps time to seek a change
load pack, close the door
head upward toward that ridge
see what lays in store?

step by step begin, climb
sometimes turn, look below
wistful thought of kind return
never perfect but yes, home

in time come upon the ridge
beating heart, gasping breath
the view beyond a paradise
or darkness cold, of death?

go back now to comfort known
wonder what would have been
to live forever with regret
what promise lay unseen?

find the will for final steps
reaches only birds have flown
the view is clear and now is seen
a world, what promise, unknown

retrace the way familiar path
tell stories by the fire?
resolve to enter this new realm
engage forthwith desire

Добро пожаловать!

Kind of weird to have a Russian wife, be a true admirer of Russian culture, have more Russian friends than Americans, practice learning Russian daily including memorizing words to Russian songs while intending to sing them to a bunch of Russians… meanwhile Russia is taking over our country by installing and controlling a puppet President.

Six decades after Sputnik, the Russians finally win.
