Fab 5! US Girl Power RULES in London…

SkyHarbor, August 1st, 2012

U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team basks in the Golden glow.

Against the Russians, it wasn’t even much of a contest. So much so that the Americans could probably have just done a somersault or two in a couple of events and still won handily…

I know it’s politically incorrect to call them ‘girls’, but in a sport where you’re pretty much a ‘washed up old lady’ by 18, that IS after all, what they ARE. And WHAT girls! I heard admiring commentary like “That is CRAZY hard!” from ex-gymnasts covering the events. They were magnificent, doing things which a human body has no business being able to do! Congratulations, Ladies! :-)

I saw that happen. And it was amazing to watch.

Part of me, however, is weirded out by the whole thing.

I suppose the pragmatist in me wonders how this contributes in any way to the exploration of space. Is that wrong? Probably.

Hey, the Space Olympics should be a hoot! Even if the occasional swimmer drowns in the zero-G mist.
