… It is only a test. Had this been an actual emergency, you would have been directed to bend over and kiss your sweet ass goodbye…

Actually, I’m finally testing my little recording rig and seeing what the various patches and effects sound like… I’m a little better than this (but not much!) on keys – but I had to reach over a bunch of junk just to get one hand on the damn keyboard. There is no guitar.
You have been warned.

Totally unstructured trance marmalade and apparently channelling either Martin Denny or Arthur Lyman’s ‘dark side’ at 4:00am. The radiation count is rather high, thus the warning symbols. Be sure to keep an eye on your dosimeter badges!

Mr. Mxyzptlk (TEST [4:27])
Ms. Gsptlsnz & Mr. Mxyzptlk

Pretty murky, yes? Floating down the Nile and the ‘shrooms are coming on?

I’m OK it seems. The morning was rather hellish though. Hoping the worst is past.

Now, interestingly enough, I’m on the phone reporting an apparent identity theft through ebay.

Pretty strange day. I get up at 7:20am with a bad ache in my lower back and it suddenly hits me that this is renal cholic, the giveaway a kidney stone attack is underway. I take an anti-spasmodic called Toradol left over from a previous episode, hoping that it might help me skate through this one. No such luck. Within another half hour I’m buckled over and the pain has reached maximum intensity. Surging into all extremities. The vomiting begins. An hour later I’m in the emergency room with an IV hooked up delivering a concoction of more Toradol, an anti-nausea medication, and a healthy whack of Dilaudid (synthetic morphine).

By 2pm I’m home and almost feel normal.

At 8pm or so, the movie we’re watching at home is interrupted by a phone call from a guy in Sacramento who wants to verify that this is Joel G. McKinnon of Montara and I’m selling a 2011 Hyundai Sonata on eBay for $16,500 and he’s about to do the wire transfer. Only problem is I’ve never had a Hyundai Sonata and haven’t used eBay in the last five years. What’s really creepy is the guy knows all sorts of details about me. My exact age, my wife’s name, all the places I’ve lived in the last twenty years. It’s because he was googling me to be sure the deal was legit. Fortunately for me, he’s the intended victim and I was just a name and city for cover.

I talked to eBay’s fraud folks and they verified that a brand-new user named mckinnon22joel signed up using my full billing address. I filled out an IC3 complaint online with the FBI immediately. Tomorrow I file a report with the sherriff’s office and probably shut down my credit cards for good measure.

So, what kind of day did you guys have?

Thanks guys! Probably more to follow as I get the hang of this setup. The ‘drums’ are from my Digitech guitar processor BION… limited patterns, but they are actual drums and sound OK. I doubled them and then added effects to one in an effort to get that sort of ‘off-world’ sound 😉

Sounds like a less than optimal weekend so far Max! Mine has been relatively uneventful comparatively speaking! Glad you’re feeling better and that no actual money was vapourised! (good thing the intended ‘mark’ called you!) – Sorry – I Hope tomorrow sort of makes up for it!

Well gang, Max’s Sunday HAD to go better than mine did!
I had a stroke Sunday afternoon, leaving my right side fairly useless. I recognised the symptoms and called 911 when it became clear that I couldn’t even get across my tiny apartment. Fortunately, the damage seems limited to motor neurons, the neurologists say my mind is still ok – no cerebral cortex – I FEEL ok and there is no pain. Time will tell how much functionality will be recovered…. The docs are optimistic. We’ll see. Love to all. More soon.

Max: I’ve been a victim of identity theft as well. It happened 7 years ago. Wife got a call from the police asking if I was shopping for a vaccum cleaner with another women at Sears. I was actually out of town on a business trip at the time. Needless to say, the first call I got from her on the matter was a bit awkward. As it turns out, the clerk was suspicious of a pair of young-ish (17 or so) kids buying the item and called security.

Turns out they had a valid drivers license with all my data on it with his picture and a valid Visa card. Never figured out the root cause. The police indicated is was likely pilfered thru the mail and had suspicions about inside theft at the US Postal Service. The kids were really the mules in the scam. Every 2 years or so now we get another case of a new credit
card or item being purchased using our various card numbers. We now have to change them every 12 months or so. One good thing is we are protected by the card companies from any liability so other than the administrative hassle its been OK. I also suggest you monitor your bank accounts and change your ATM PIN every 9-12 months as well as an extra precaution.

It appears I’ll be transferred to a rehab facility in a day or two. It’ll be a humbling and grueling task to relearn to dress myself and to walk (if I’m lucky)!

Weird dreams! My RN gave me a single Ambien to help me sleep. i did sleep a little, but when I ‘awoke’, I was was still dreaming – some paranoid Heinlein number along the lines of ‘666 – The sign of the beast’. i made a bit of a mess before I realised i was dreaming and was snapped out out of it…

It doesn’t work for everybody but I find it very helpful. A guaranteed 4+ hours and not much spillover into the day. My rule of thumb is never to use it three consecutive nights and stick to a half tab which is enough to do the trick. My wife, however, finds it absolutely worthless. Still can’t sleep and ruins the next day for her.
