We’re now approaching the 10th anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq. I (and many NWers) were highly dubious of the so-called ‘intelligence’ which, had it all been true might have justified some sort of military response. But, as Rachel puts it “We were snookered”. I’ll say! Here, the whole case is laid out for the disastrous course of action taken by the United States of America vis à vis Iraq. Ms. Maddow then editorialises on how we need to come clean on this massive con perpetrated on American lawmakers, the ‘liberal’ media and ultimately, on the American People.
Seriously, FUCK Dick Cheney!
Strange how moving and powerful this story still is, although I already know it well. Ahmed Chalabi — ‘Curveball’ — Bush’s face as he sells the ‘product’ —
I would like to think this can’t happen again. But deep in my heart, I suspect we’re still somewhat of a small and stupid people, easily swayed by a tight meme into sticking a knife into our own future.
Fuck the Republican Party, and fuck the Conservative ideology.

All agreed, but note that Rachel prefaces the Iraq scam with the Gulf of Tonkin ‘incident’ and ‘resolution’, which led directly to our deep involvement in Viet Nam, including many years of near-non-stop bombing of the North. That was a disaster too – but ginned up by a *Democratic* administration eager to be seen as ‘tough on commies’. We all saw how well THAT worked out!
So it’s wise I think to remember that Liberals are not immune to HUBRIS.
It’s clichéd, of course, but it’s EASY to start wars. Ending them? Not so much.

I STILL cringe whenever I hear Dubya ‘mispronunciate’ the word ‘nuclear’ as Texan ‘nucular’! ARGH.

A slight non sequitur, but I found it touching on President’s Day. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell tends to get a bit ‘verklempt’ sometimes, but here I found it appropriate. (please excuse JFK’s numerous god/bible references). It WAS a helluva inauguration speech!

There you go. God… just as real as Saddam’s WMD. Nothing a little shock and awe won’t take care of.
