CIA and La Bahia de Cochinas…

SkyHarbor, 2014/05/03

The covert actions taken against sovereign governments undertaken by the United States from the 1950′s through the 1980′s comprise a litany of ‘dirty tricks’, quasi-invasions, assassinations and more ‘garden variety’ mass murders. This was generally done under the blanket rubrik of the ‘Cold War’ between America and its client states and the Soviet Union and/or ITS client states…

Mostly undertaken in the Western Hemisphere but also in the Near-East and Asia-proper not to mention Africa, U.S. clandestine activities are still largely kept under wraps (ie: ‘Classified’).

In most cases, these usually distasteful and often dishonourable ‘extra-legal’ actions were undertaken and/or led by America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)…

The sunswept Caribbean island of Cuba in the 1950′s was a ‘playground’ for well-to-do Americans. Although the Cuban dictator Batista was highly corrupt and roundly despised by his people, he was a right-wing ally of the U.S. and amenable to American business interests. Batista was also heavily involved with the American ‘Mob’. Nearly anything an American ‘tourista’ wanted could be had – for a price.

But Cuban discontent with the repressive Batista regime had inspired a widespread guerrilla uprising, led by the charismatic ex-lawyer Fidel Castro and his equally charismatic lieutenant Che Guevara. By 1958, Fidel’s popularity and strength were soaring amongst the people. In 1959, Castro and his men slow-marched across Cuba to rapturous popular response. As he approached Havana, Batista finally read the writing on the wall and fled. Castro and his crew assumed power in a relatively peaceful way.

Naturally, America looked nervously on as Castro came to power. Castro was a nationalist with Socialist leaningss, but was not a Communist. It took America’s unfriendliness and lack of help to Cuba to push Castro into the arms of the USSR. Castro’s subsequent nationalisation of American companies and property in Cuba was the last straw. A Communist Soviet ally just 90 miles off Florida? Something HAD to be done…

What was ‘DONE’ came to be known as the ‘Bay of Pigs’ (‘Bahia de Cochinas’) fiasco:

All of which led directly to the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.

Given its track record, one must wonder why the CIA hasn’t been flat ABOLISHED. As an intelligence gathering organisation, it’s been an ABYSMAL failure. Ethically, we can only be ashamed for the awful things done by CIA in OUR names. On balance, CIA has done the U.S. far more DAMAGE than good in the 68 years of its existence.

From late 1989. In retrospect, an important time:

How many of Stockwell’s ‘revelations’ are really true? I don’t know, but this document is a real eye-opener! And it makes my blood run cold.
