Q: What cast the largest shadow ever photographed?
A: The rings of Saturn.
That little bit of trivia may well be my favorite little bit of trivia. I have posed it to at least half a dozen high IQ friends, and no one has yet correctly answered the question phrased simply as above. Yet it has always been well-received, perhaps based on raw coolness. I can’t claim to be bright enough to have figured it out myself, since I picked up the tidbit from one of those Astronomy Picture of the Day write-ups. Still, I think it is a cool question to ask.
