This deserves its own post, but I can’t bring myself to do it.
At Begemotya’s party, one of the guests (Marc?) talked about Chernobyl, and the ongoing struggle of the Ukraine to deal with it. This video is short, and graphic.
The Other Future. From 1986.

The AT&T prophecy was largely fulfilled, but they did miss the mark on the future of phone booths. On the other hand, they did anticipate the revolutionary ways we would fax apple juice to each other.
Regarding Chernobyl, I read the account at http://www.kiddofspeed.com/ long ago, and while I have no independent verification, it seems authentic to me. That site does not dwell on the genetic legacy of the disaster, but it does explore the bizarreness of the restricted zone in this century. For example, as horrible as the radiation is, for many sorts of wildlife the area is now a better environment than it was when heavily populated.

Yeah, the kiddofspeed account is gripping. What a weird sci-fi realness.
