    Perhaps the best reason to wake up as a species is the status of that species.

    Great song. Love those late fifties vocals.

    Beneath the obvious commercialism, there is really a very Disney-esque sweet message there…

    It’s not until you begin to deconstruct ‘Disney’ that it starts to turn brown…

    I prefer (in this case) to remain child-like.

    Flipper was COOL!

    I ‘met’ Flipper in 1963 in Miami… (true!) he was cool, and he asked me (“kkkklllllklllll… zzzzipw…e-e-e-e”) if I had any hash (not quite as true)… but I caught his drift!

    I just heard the story tonight about Dick van Dyke. Here a link to one article on the “porpoises saved my life” account. I couldn’t help but ask if he tripped over an ottoman just after walking up onto the beach.

    And I can see Laura (MTM) running down to beach and moaning in her trademark tremulous voice “Oh…R-R-ROB!”… ;-}

    Oddly enough, along with Flipper, I’ve met Dick Van Dyke too… He lived in Scottsdale, AZ at the same time as I did, and it was not uncommon to see him around town. Seemed like a nice guy…

    Dolphins have a reputation going all the way back to ancient Greece and the Minoan culture of sensing when a human in the water is in distress and purposely (porpoisely?) trying to help out… which makes Japan’s annual dolphin slaughtering ‘festival’ all the more incomprehensible and indefensible. Whales and dolphins are NOT SUSHI goddammit!!
